The Ansel Adams Fellowship
The Center for Creative Photography
invites proposals for the 2011 Ansel Adams Research
Fellowship. This program is designed to promote and support
research in the Center's photograph, archive, and library
collections. Among the Center's treasures are the complete
archives of more than forty major photographers including
Ansel Adams, Edward Weston, Wynn Bullock, Aaron Siskind,
Frederick Sommer, Louise Dahl-Wolfe, W. Eugene Smith, and
Garry Winogrand. See the Collections and Archives pages for
additional information.
Our goal is to promote new knowledge
about photography, photographic history, and photographic
theory. Through the Center's support of scholars, training
of students, and dissemination of new scholarship, the
Center for Creative Photography works to ensure the growth
of photographic history as a discrete field in intellectual
history. Fellowship applications are evaluated within this
context.
Ansel Adams Research Fellowships are
awarded for projects that require an extended period of
research in the collections of the Center. Awards in amounts
up to $5000 will support two to four weeks of study at the
Center. Multiple awards may be given depending on the
applications received. Scholars at any point in their
careers and from any discipline are encouraged to apply.
Application process: Send a cover
letter, curriculum vitae, and a brief statement detailing
the candidate's research interests. Attention will be given
to the candidate's statement concerning the value of the
Center's holdings in investigating those interests.

Sigma Xi, The Scientific Research Society
Grants-in-Aid of Research
The program awards grants of up to $1,000 to students from all areas
of the sciences and engineering. Designated funds from the
National Academy of Sciences allow for
grants of up to $5,000 for astronomy research and $2,500 for vision
related research. Students use the funding to pay for travel expenses to
and from a research site, or for purchase of non-standard laboratory
equipment necessary to complete a specific research project.
While
membership in Sigma Xi is not a requirement for applying for funding
from the Grants-in-Aid of Research program, approximately 75% of funds
are restricted for use by dues paying student members of Sigma Xi or
students whose project advisor is a dues paying member of Sigma Xi.
Students from any country are eligible to receive funding.

Fellowship Program
The Smithsonian Tropical Research Institute (STRI),
is a division of the Smithsonian Institution in Washington DC and
maintains research facilities for marine and terrestrial research at
various locations on the Isthmus of Panama. STRI offers fellowships
for undergraduate, predoctoral and postdoctoral research in the
areas represented by its scientific staff. Disciplines include
ecology, anthropology, paleontology, paleoecology, evolutionary
biology, molecular phylogenetics, biogeography, animal behavior,
neurobiology, soils sciences, and physiology of tropical plants and
animals.

Supplementary Research Award Program (SRA)
The Supplementary Research Award Program is a mechanism to
replace the practice of waiving or reducing STRI fees for visitors. The SRA
program is to recognize that in some cases it is to STRI's benefit to have
researchers using facilities even if they can not pay full fees. The program
is to provide supplementary support only. It is not intended to be a
fellowship program that would provide major support for a visitor's research
at STRI. Annually STRI will set aside funds to cover the program costs.

National Urban and
Community Forestry Challenge Cost Share Grant Program
NUCFAC is an appointed advisory council to the Secretary of
Agriculture on urban forestry and related issues. The 1990 Farm Bill
created NUCFAC to bring together the wide variety of voices raised about
a common concern: the present health and future preservation of
America's urban forests. NUCFAC was founded to synthesize the full
spectrum of views into a consistent vision, as a foundation for
practical policy on urban forestry. There are three Innovation Grant
categories based on one of the Council's identified priority areas.
- Trees and Climate Change,
- Trees and Public Health, and
