First Year Institute

Welcome to Bridgewater State University!

The first year of college is both exciting and challenging. One of the most challenging aspects of any college career is the transition into the college culture, including what is expected of students and the dynamics of university life as a whole. The First Year Institute is dedicated to assisting first-year students in their transition to Bridgewater State University by addressing intellectual, social, and cultural dimensions of learning while challenging them to develop the skills and sense of responsibility needed to be successful as a college student and community member.

Successful first-year students at Bridgewater State University are those who learn how to utilize resources, resolve problems, and prepare themselves to take full advantage of their time here on campus. The First Year Institute helps to promote this success by offering bi-monthly sessions on the common concerns and questions first-year students have during their transition to university life as well as a mentoring program. The First Year Institute will provide a foundational experience that meets the diverse needs of our students.
