Application Process and Important Dates


Application Process

Space in the Bridgewater-at-Oxford Program is limited and students will be carefully selected. Applicants should have at least a B average and should be able to write clear, correct, and well-organized English prose since writing will play an important part in every course. Although preference will be given to upperclassmen and graduate students, exceptionally gifted sophomores are welcome to apply. Alumni, professionals, and educators with good reading and writing skills and an informed interest in their chosen area are also encouraged to apply.

Notice of acceptance or rejection will be mailed within three weeks of receipt of application. Applicants should submit materials listed below as early as possible, preferably by March 8, 2010.  Late applications will be accepted on a case by case basis as space is available. 

  1. A completed Application
  2. An official college transcript
  3. A letter of recommendation, preferably from a professor (included in application form)
  4. A writing sample, such as a research paper, essay or a report

Payment in full of program charges and, if applicable, airfare will be due no later than April 16. Payment should be made to Bridgewater State College by certified or cashier's check, by money order or by MasterCard, Visa, or Discover card. For information on refunds, please see section headed "Important Dates" below.

Shifts in currency exchange rates may necessitate a small adjustment in the program charges specified above.

Important Dates

In planning for the 2010 Bridgewater-at-Oxford Program, applicants should keep in mind the following important dates:

March 8 Deadline for all applications
April 16 Payment due in full. After this date only $1,500.00 can be refunded to students who withdraw. Applicants concerned about the possibility of late withdrawal may wish to consider obtaining trip cancellation insurance from Travel Guard, 1145 Clark Street, Stevens Point, WI 54481, Tel. (800) 782-5151 or (715) 345-0505 or a similar travel agency. No refunds will be made after departure from the United States.
April 30 By this date students should have sent to the Bridgewater-at-Oxford Program Office one passport size photograph for their Bodleian Library admission cards.
May 16 Preliminary meeting and reception for program participants who live within comfortable driving distance of Bridgewater. The reception will be held at the Campus Center at Bridgewater State College at 2 PM
July 5 Evening departure from Logan Airport for those traveling with the Bridgewater-at-Oxford group. Transportation by chartered bus will be provided between London and Oxford.
July 6 Arrival of all program participants at Wadham College, Oxford.
July 8
through 28
Lectures and classes.
July 28 Farewell Banquet at Wadham
July 29 Morning departure from Oxford and early evening arrival in Boston for those traveling with the Bridgewater-at-Oxford group.
