Elements of the Commitment

  • By November 15, 2007: create institutional structure to guide development and implementation of climate neutral campus plan; choose two “tangible interim actions” to implement by September 2009 (see below)
  • By September 15, 2008: conduct greenhouse gas inventory
  • By September 2009: undertake at least two “tangible interim actions” from among the following seven areas:
    • Green building policy
    • Energy Star Procurement Policy
    • Air Travel Offsetting
    • Provision of Public Transportation
    • Green power purchasing
    • Climate friendly investing
    • Waste minimization
  • By September 2009: develop plan for campus climate neutrality, incorporating the following areas:
    • Setting targets and mechanisms to minimize greenhouse gas emissions and purchase carbon offsets
    • Incorporating sustainability into curriculum, co-curricular and extracurricular initiatives
    • Enhancing research and community outreach related to sustainability
