First-Year Honors Residential Learning Community

About the Community

Honors Students and Faculty

The First Year Residential Honors Community is a cohort of first year students accepted to the Honors Program (Students must be accepted to BSU with housing and then apply to and be accepted into the Honors Program). These honors students live together on the same floor in Woodward Hall. They receive guidance from Resident Assistants who are also in the Honors Program. Students have opportunities to interact with Honors faculty and are connected to the many important resources available in the Honors Center.

The goals of the First Year Resident Honors Learning Community are:

  • To form a community of scholars who have a mutual interest in striving for academic excellence. This community would hopefully create a sense of belonging and a feeling of support among Honors students.
  • To create a stronger connection between Honors students and Honors faculty, including the Director and Assistant Director of the Honors Center. Living in the First Year Residential Honors Community would allow students to form out-of-class bonds with faculty and result in the creation of a support system that encourages striving for academic excellence. It would bring more first year students into the Honors Center providing them with yet another level of belonging.
