FAQs about Living in an Additional Occupancy Space

Is there a limit on what we can bring (i.e. TV, Radio)?
Each roommate could potentially have one of everything, but we don't advise it. There wouldn't be enough space to hold everything. It's best to split up what everyone is bringing. Besides, it's less for you to move out at closing.

Can we request additional furniture?
You can request additional furniture with a work order. Keep in mind that you want to make sure that you have space for what ever you are requesting. Also, we can not accommodate every request. Furniture is given out on a first come, first serve basis because of our limited supply.

In what order will I be moved to a design (permanent) space?
This is determined based on date of acceptance to the University. The room with the earliest acceptance date listed will be first and the next earliest acceptance date will be second, and so on until everyone is assigned a design space. The residents of the room will determine who will move out of the room.

How long will we live in an additional occupancy space?
We try our best to have everyone moved to a permanent space as soon as possible. We begin moving students to permanent spaces after the room freeze period during the first two weeks of school. Typically it takes the entire first semester to get most students moved. Usually, the remaining students will be moved during the first two weeks of the spring semester.

How much is the rebate, and how long will I receive it?
The additional occupancy rebate is 20% for the number of days you are involuntarily in an additional occupancy space. This credit typically shows on your spring bill that is sent out in December. Starting in the spring semester, you will no longer receive this rebate.

Can we make someone move out?
If a mutual decision cannot be made by the roommates regarding who will move out, you should notify the Assistant Director for Assignments or the Assistant Director for Housing Operations. The person who applied to the University last would be the person asked to move out.

Can we find out who applied to the University last?
If you cannot decide who will move when it is your turn, the Assistant Director for Assignments or the Assistant Director for Housing Operations will tell you who applied last. We do not provide this information earlier because we do not want anyone in the room to be treated differently.
