The School of Graduate Studies has prepared the following recommendations to assist potential candidates seeking acceptance into the Accelerated Post Baccalaureate (APB) program who fail to meet the required admissions standard of a cumulative undergraduate grade point average (GPA) of 2.8. Please note that the required GPA is a strict requirement for admission, therefore it is not flexible, and is one of several admission standards that must be satisfied in order for an applicant to be considered eligible for review. For a complete list of admission requirements please visit the APB overview.
Interested candidates who do not have a 2.8 GPA must attain a cumulative GPA of 3.0 in a total of six credits beyond their bachelor's degree in order to be considered for admission. The GPA acquired in these six credits will not be combined with the candidate's undergraduate GPA.
All candidates should choose courses that are applicable to the area in which they are seeking their initial license to teach and cannot take a course that they have already taken in their prior academic history. Example: If you are seeking an initial license to teach High School English, than all credits must be obtained from English courses.
All students must take courses at the 300 or 400 levels with the exception of those interested in teaching mathematics or sciences only. The latter may take 100 or 200 level courses.
Upon the completion of the six credits it is the student's responsibility to forward an official transcript to the School of Graduate Studies demonstrating they satisfied the GPA requirement.
Students should contact the coordinator of the subject discipline they plan to teach if they have questions or concerns on the appropriate courses to take.
