This is an eight week, six credit
experience that begins at the start of the semester. You must make application
for this experience as you would for your Massachusetts school practicum -
applications are due early in February 2009.
You must have met practicum eligibility through your department. Participants will selected by representatives
of the School of Education and Allied Studies.
This will be your first eight week experience and it will take place at the St. Mary's School http://www.school-portal.co.uk/Grouphomepage.asp?GroupId=5632 in Crewe, England, about 45 miles south of Manchester. Manchester Metropolitan has a campus at Crewe and you would live in the dorms at MMC/Cheshire. http://www.cheshire.mmu.ac.uk/mmucheshire.php
The opportunity is in San Juan at one of
the laboratory schools (university schools) associated and on the campus at the
University of Puerto Rico. Working in
the upper grades, 3rd on up, requires some knowledge of Spanish,
working in the lower grades, more knowledge of Spanish would be beneficial.
For special educators or Dual majors,
this will be your 'inclusion' experience.
You will return to Massachusetts to complete your practicum
requirement(s) in the second half of the spring term.
Information Gathering and Meetings --
Note:
In addition to Crewe, England and San Juan, Puerto Rico, we are
currently in discussions with schools in Belize and Quito, Ecuador.
