Information
Regarding New MTEL
General
Curriculum Math Subtest Scores
On May
19, 2009 the MA Board of Elementary and Secondary Education voted to
temporarily allow candidates scoring between 227-239 on the math
subtest to have passed for the purpose of the initial license.
These candidates will need to pass the math subtest at 240 or higher as a
criterion for advancing their initial licenses to the professional stage - see:
http://www.doe.mass.edu/news/news.asp?id=4808
In
keeping with this policy the School of Education and Allied Studies, the
Department of Elementary and Early Childhood Education and the Special
Education and Communication Disorders Department will:
1.Consider
227 as a passing score on the math subtest for purposes of progress through the
program.
2. Allow
the July MTEL administration to be used to meet the math subtest practicum
requirement for candidates seeking a moderate, severe disabilities and the
elementary education license for this year only.
Note:
With the exception of these two provisions, departmental policies will remain
the same.
