Description: This award is presented annually in memory of Professor Louis Carmel Stearns by his daughter, Mrs. Miriam Stearns Houghton, to a biology major on the basis of academic achievement; demonstrated interest, effort and perseverance in the field of biology; and financial need. Undergraduate students may apply after the completion of six biology courses that count toward the biology major; graduate students may apply after they have completed two 500 level courses from the biology core.
