The University of Limerick, Ollscoil Luimnigh, is located in Limerick, the third largest city in the Republic of Ireland. Limerick has long enjoyed a reputation as a major cultural and artistic centre, having contributed to the world of entertainment through its many achievements in theatre, in music, and in the arts. The University of Limerick is an independent university established as the National Institute for Higher Education by the Government of Ireland in 1972. It is located in a 600 acre National Technological Park on the banks of the river Shannon. The university was developed to help meet the rapidly changing economic and social needs that emerged upon Ireland's accession to the European Union. It is therefore a dynamic and responsive institution and has become a focus for a wide range of artistic activity and is home to some fine collections of Irish Art. Bridgewater State College students will attend classes at the University of Limerick, stay in accommodations on campus, and take part in student life.

In addition to studying at the University of Limerick, students will have plenty of free time to visit local attractions. Limerick is a city of many contrasts, illustrated in the form of medieval core with a later Georgian addition. Of particular importance are: King John's castle, The Hunt Museum and St. Mary's Cathedral.*
