INTD255:Atlantic Canada Study Tour

July 12-25,2009


                

  This two week study tour is focused on the Natural Resources, Economics, History and Cultural Heritage of Atlantic Canada.  Students and two faculty members will explore sites in New Brunswick and Nova Scotia as well as interact with students and scholars at three universities over the course of the study tour. Case studies, historic sites, cultural events, and natural history sites will be used to highlight concepts . These concepts include sustainability, global studies, cultural heritage and environmental issues . Highlighted issues include the Halifax Municipal Composting Program, invasive species in Canada, economic issues on health care in Canada, and the significance of St. John and Halifax in Canadian history. This study tour will travel by vans throughout New Brunswick, Nova Scotia and Prince Edward Island and visit three major Canadian universities.

               

 Highlights

  •  Explore  Important environmental and geographical features in  Atlantic Canada by visiting both  Fundy National Park and Cape Breton National Park.
  • Meet and discuss with guest speakers for Dalhousie University as they address the impact of invasive species on the Point Pleasant Park in Halifax.
  • Discuss sustainability issues with Canadians
  • Visit the Highland Games in Antigonish

    Program Costs are to be determined.

     Fulltime BSC Students

      All fulltime BSC students will be awarded a scholarship. This scholarship money will cover tuition and fees as well as a portion of the trip.

    How to Apply

    1. Complete the BSC Study Tour Application below and return them to the Office of Study Abroad.

    2. Visit the Financial Aid office to discuss how you will fund your trip. Some students take out loans to cover the cost of  the trip.

    3. Apply for a passport immediately to ensure your ability to travel.

    4. Discuss any concerns with the staff of the Office of Study Abroad early in the application process.
