ARTS 250/450- Tanzania Study Tour

May 17- June 4, 2011


In this study tour students learn about the art and culture of Tanzania. Students create works of art based on the experiences on the tour. Students work as a teacher, explore as a researcher and engage as a community service provider. This is a unique opportunity for BSC students interested in learning about Tanzania through first-hand involvement in the community.


Highlights

  • Teach African youth and work in a rural village.
  • Meet Masai warriors and camp in the semi-arid savannah near the Equator.
  • Hike the base of Kilimanjaro.
  • Enjoy safari in Ngorongoro Crater and Arusha National Park.
  • Swim in the Indian Ocean.
  • Explore the streets of Stone Town, Zanzibar.
  • Get to know Pete and Charlotte O'Neil, former Black Panthers from the U.S. and founders of the United African Alliance Community Center.

Faculty Leader:  John Hooker

Professor Hooker has led two BSC study tours to Tanzania enabling students to engage with the community through the arts and education.  He teaches art education and sculpture courses at BSC.

 

 

Estimated Program Cost

Fulltime BSU Students

All Fulltime BSU students will be awarded a scholarship. This scholarship will cover tuition, fees, and a portion of the trip. The cost of the tour after applied scholarship money is $3,400.00

Non BSU Participants

The cost for Non BSU Participants is $3,400.00 plus the cost of tuition and fees.

  • All Travel Expenses included on the itinerary

  • Housing

  • Airfare

How to Apply

1. Attend a Study Abroad 101 session

2. Complete the BSC Study Tour Application below and return them to the Office of Study Abroad

3. Visit the Financial Aid office to discuss how you will fund your trip. Some students take out loans to cover the cost of the trip.

4. Apply for a passport immediately to ensure your ability to travel.

5. Discuss any concerns with the staff in the Office of Study Abroad early in the application process.
