The best defense for the Grammar and Usage portion of the exam is a strong offense. Here are some strategies to help you prepare:

Get out all of those old papers and, using a grammar handbook, slowly and methodically begin to correct those comma splices, fragments, and run-ons. Pay particular attention to subject and verb tenses.
As you read textbooks for your other classes, note how those writers and editors use the comma, colon, and semicolon.
Take an old paper or essay to the Test Counselors. They will be happy to pinpoint your repeated errors and give you a no nonsense approach to grammar.
Scan a good grammar handbook . . .
