To complete this section of the Reading Subtest, you will
be asked to read a passage and answer a series of multiple choice questions relating to
that passage.
To Complete:
- Read the directions carefully.
- Look at the title and length of the selection.
- Read through the types of questions you will have to answer. Do not bother to read the
questions in detail--just look for the type of question.

- authors purpose
- general understanding
- specific details
- word meaning
- Survey the selection by skimming the first and last paragraphs.
- As you read, physically mark important terms. Upon finishing each
paragraph, write a few words in the margin as a reference to the main point of that
paragraph.
- As you read and answer the multiple choice questions, refer back to your notes first. If
you are still not certain, look more closely at the paragraph which supports the answer.

- Survey your margin notes
- Look for the paragraph that relates to the question
- Read your notes
- Review the paragraph in question
- Eliminate any answers that do not work
- Decide between the remaining answers
