Teaching and Learning
Grants
Summer
Teacher-Scholar Grants
These grants are intended to
encourage teaching-related projects that promote meaningful teaching innovation
and renewal. Successful projects seek transformation of pedagogy
(teaching strategies/methods, use of new technology, evaluation of learning,
etc.). Change in and extension of subject matter knowledge as reflected
in curriculum and course development may be part of a proposed project, but not
its primary focus. Grant requests should demonstrate substantive
modification in pedagogy. In developing proposals, faculty and librarians
are encouraged to link their goals and outcomes to those of existing
development areas and initiatives, such as (but not limited to) International
Engagement, Contemplative Pedagogy, Quantitative Reasoning, Writing Across the
Curriculum (WAC), Interdisciplinary Engagement, Undergraduate Research, Social
Justice, Diversity and Inclusion, etc. Awards are intended for use in
summer 2013.
To apply:
1. Consult application guidelines
2. Send your application in the form of a Word document to OTL@bridgew.edu

Teaching and Learning Travel Grants
These grants are
intended to cover some or all of the expenses of attending or presenting at
teaching-related conferences and workshops. This grant is designed for travel
to national and regional conferences such as those hosted by the Association of
American Colleges and Universities (AAC&U) or disciplinary teaching
conferences such as National Council of Teachers of English (NCTE). These
grants may also be used for travel to disciplinary conferences with a primary
focus on scholarship, within which there are individual sessions devoted to
teaching practice. In order to foster disciplinary, departmental and
cross-disciplinary innovation and growth, teams of faculty and librarians are
allowed to apply.
The Office of
Teaching and Learning Advisory Board Grant Committee awards grants based on the
relevance of the conference to the applicant's
teaching/scholarship of teaching and the anticipated impact of conference on
applicant's teaching/scholarship of teaching.

presenters
Number of Awards: up to 15 per year
Application

Teaching Circle
Grants
These
grants are designed to facilitate dialogue related to some aspect of teaching
and/or learning. The initial meeting of the Circle must be open to any
faculty or librarian interested in the issue, and publicized in an open
invitation to faculty, librarians and schools via Community Announcements. Email
OTL a subject for that announcement (100 characters, not words, max.), a
short summary including deadline for people to register (200 characters, not
words, max.), and additional details if needed (such as dates / times you propose to meet; no character/word max.), plus
the facilitator’s name, department / program, email address to use to register
& phone number. A minimum of three
people (including the proposer) must sign up for a teaching circle in order
to qualify for funding. Funds may be used for common texts, for hospitality/lunches
at regular gatherings, etc. OTL’s administrative assistant Lori Benson can book rooms and refreshments, once the facilitator
emails
the names of those registered.
A
one-page summary of the group's activities, including top take-aways and contributions others may find valuable, is due at the end of the final semester in
which the group meets.
