Index to the ArchivesThis is all about pictures please be patient while images load.Bridgewater has a long history of theater & dance production. Normal School era yearbooks reveal images of student productions as early as the 1890s, and programs for Drama Club performances have turned up throughout the Teachers College period. In 1960 Bridgewater began offering liberal arts and sciences degrees, and the Communication Arts and Sciences degree with a theater concentration emerged in the 1970s. From the 1920s through the 1960s the Drama Club performed in Horace Mann Auditorium in Boyden Hall. In 1969 what is now the Rondileau Campus Center opened, with its large modern theater. In the 1970s the Drama Club became Ensemble Theater, and mainstage production activity moved from extracurricular to cocurricular status, serving as a laboratory for the academic program in theater. In the 1990s the mainstage productions became directly funded by the college, and students were again freed to organize and present their own performances with their own funding through the Student Government Association. This archive is a work in progress, in an attempt to document on line the theater & dance production activity at Bridgewater. The recent archives are indexed by decade, with a masterlist of known titles and directors. Documentation is added as it is developed, beginning with the most recent seasons. Images of the performances are accompanied by the program in Adobe Acrobat format wherever available. Student performances and activities are also included where documentation is available. Listings of theater and dance program graduates, Judith Glynn Award winners, student club officers, and program faculty also are included. All this is a perpetual work in progress, and contributions of images and information from alumni are welcome. Please contact Dr. Arthur Dirks.
