Become the Answer to a Better Way to Learn.

American schools are facing enormous challenges. With an increasingly complex society and rapid technology-driven change, schools are being asked to educate a remarkably diverse student population while adhering to ever more rigorous academic standards.

On the frontlines of this cultural revolution are today’s early childhood and elementary teachers, who must enter the classroom armed with a unique blend of professional skills – a deep understanding of subject matter, the ability to integrate technologies that enable students to explore new ideas, and the competence to collaborate with parents, colleagues and other professionals.

If you are a teacher who is committed to shaping a more powerful, positive learning experience for your students, Bridgewater State University can help you develop and enhance the skills you need through the Master of Education in Elementary Education and Master of Education in Early Childhood Education programs.

At Bridgewater State University, our mission is to prepare competent, caring teachers who foster student learning. We believe that effective educators create environments where students construct knowledge from experience.

Coursework includes the study of how children learn, with respect to cultural diversity, learning styles and language, as well as approaches to instruction and student assessment.

The program emphasizes the:

  • Critical role of research in developing a strong knowledge of theory and practice
  • Development of meaningful curricula that incorporate effective teaching approaches and promote comprehensive developmental and learning outcomes
  • Importance of collaboration with colleagues, parents and community members
  • Responsibility of teachers to continually evaluate teaching practices, analyze learning environments and incorporate the best research-based practices
