The Curriculum

This 30-credit program is designed to help strengthen and enhance the accounting and management skills of individuals seeking job advancement, as well as provide training for professionals who wish to pursue a new career direction in accounting. In addition to imparting the requisite technical accounting skills, the curriculum stresses written and oral presentation skills, ethics, and analytical and problem solving capabilities, reflecting the changing roles of accountants and CPAs within various organizations. Furthermore, the program can prepare students to sit for the CPA exam.

According to the U.S. Department of Labor, employment of accountants and auditors is expected to grow by 22 percent between 2008 and 2018, with more than 279,000 new jobs projected for the decade. Accountants and auditors who have earned professional recognition through certification or other designation, especially a CPA, should have the best job prospects. Applicants with a master's degree in accountancy or a master's degree in business administration with a concentration in accounting also may have an advantage.
