The African Studies Minor is an inter-disciplinary program designed to expose students to the richly diverse countries, societies, and cultures on the African continent and beyond. African Studies fosters a cross-cultural, multidisciplinary awareness of the more than fifty countries on the African continent, a region which is home to more than 1000 different indigenous language-speakers. The courses are drawn from many departments, including the arts and social sciences. This comprehensive program will allow students to gain a thorough understanding of contemporary socio-economic, political, globally interconnected world. Courses also include offerings in African music, art and dance. Students may also select a course from a list of courses pertaining to the African Diaspora, which will broaden exposure to the expansive reach of African societies and cultures globally.
