Barbara Carreiro - Class of 1995
Barbara Carreiro played both field hockey and lacrosse for four seasons at Bridgewater State. As a senior she was
awarded the prestigious Mary Jo Moriarty Award (1972). Barbara also served all fours as the manager for the women's
basketball team.
Following her collegiate playing days, Barbara went on to have an outstanding coaching career at Dartmouth High
School in basketball (1973-84) and at Southeastern Massachusetts University in field hockey (1973-78). She then
joined the officiating ranks and is nationally recognized as one of the best officials in the country in the sports
of field hockey and lacrosse. In 1999 she served as a judge in field hockey competition at the Pan-Am games, a role
she will reprise in 2003 in Havana, Cuba. She has umpired at the NCAA Final Four in both field hockey and lacrosse.
In 2001 and 2002 she umpired the Division I Final Four and in 2002 was named number one umpire for the
tournament.
Barbara has already been inducted into the Dartmouth High School Hall of Fame and the Northeast New Agenda Hall of
Fame. Presently a Physical Education teacher at Dartmouth Middle School, Barbara calls Westport, MA home.
