NCUR 2009: Submitting Your Abstract

Due Date: December 1, 2008

After you have written your abstract, had it approved by your mentor, and attended a voluntary ATP abstract writing workshop, you are ready to submit your abstract to NCUR. All abstracts must be submitted electronically through the NCUR-2009 web site.

Go to the online Abstract Submission Form (will be updated shortly). The form is very simple, and includes the following information:

Personal Information. This is all about you, so enter the required information.

Institution Information. The name of your institution is obviously Bridgewater State College. The address to use for BSC is 131 Summer Street, Bridgewater MA,  02325

Faculty Advisor (mentor) Information. You need to know your mentor's full name, email address, department affiliation, office phone and fax numbers (your mentor will be sent a copy of your abstract from NCUR). The address of your mentor is Bridgewater State College, Department of.........., Bridgewater, MA 02325. You also need to know the title of your mentor (Assistant Professor, Associate Professor, Full Professor etc.). 

Group/Other Presenters. A group presentation is one that requires the active participation of more than one student. An example might be a theater piece performed by a group of student performers. If your presentation involves a group, you will enter the names of your other presenters here. Please contact ATP immediately if you are submitting an abstract for a group presentation.

Undergraduate Research Office Coordinator Information. Contact information for the Office of Undergraduate Research (OUR) is entered here. The coordinator is Dr. Lee Torda. The OUR address is Bridgewater State College, Room 200 Maxwell Library, 10 Shaw Rd, Bridgewater, MA 02325. Important: use the following email address for the Coordinator: undergraduateresearch@bridgew.edu. The title of the Coordinator is "Director", the phone number is 508-531-2303 and the fax number is 508-531-1783.

Abstract Information:  Enter the type of presentation you want to give (oral, poster, etc). Enter the title of your presentation, the names of all authors, and the abstract. For authors, obviously indicate your own name, any student co-authors, and your research sponsor (mentor). You will also need to indicate the department of your mentor and the BSC address. For example: Department of English, Bridgewater State College, Bridgewater, MA 02325.  Remember that your entire abstract (including the title and names of authors) must be 250-300 words in length. You can can also include a URL to link the abstract to websites that might contain images of creative works you have completed, or other documents relevant to your abstract. IMPORTANT: The web-based abstract submission form does NOT support special characters. So, if your abstract contains formula or other special characters, provide a URL that is linked to a location where your abstract can be read in its original form.

Academic Interest Field:  Pick this field carefully, as this will dictate who reviews your abstract and which session you will be scheduled.

Equipment. Indicate if you need any special equipment for your oral presentation, or for performing and visual arts presentations. No special equipment is available for poster presentations.

Certify: Type your initials in the space provided and submit your abstract. After you submit your abstract, you should receive an email receipt.

You should be notified if your abstract is accepted for presentation at NCUR by the end of January, 2009.
