BSU Aviation has incorporated new, economical, Advance Aviation Training Devices, or AATD's, into our program.  We have FAA approved,  Elite RC-1 trainers and an Elite G501 AATD. These are great situational awareness tools that will help build a solid foundation of piloting skills for our students.

These non-motion devices provide an excellent visual display, along with ability to put students in various weather and mechanical irregularity situations. All of the BSC AATD's are located at the Aviation Training Center in New Bedford, MA.

The entire aviation industry has seen a dramatic increase in the use of AATD's and simulators for training over the last decade. There are many benefits that come with flight sim training such as reduced cost, better time utilization during training, environmentally friendly and virtually 24 hr availability.

No matter which career path pilots take, simulators are almost guaranteed to be a part of their training. We believe that giving BSU Aviation students basic flight simulator training in our program will be a good introduction for future training events during their career.

BSU Aviation students take advantage of the AATD's during various phases of their training. For example, during the instrument portion of the FAA Part 141 flight training, up to 15 hrs in the AATD can count towards their rating. Students can coordinate these training sessions with their flight instructors. Also, BSU Aviation offers and additional simulator programs with our Simulator Coordinator, Bill Heerman.
BSU Aviation is actively seeking aviation industry partners as we expand our flight simulator department. We recognize the tremendous advantages that come with the use of high level flight simulators and other advanced aviation training devices. Our expansion will include level 5 or 6 AATD's and eventually, level C or D, full motion simulators. A collaborative effort between BSU Aviation, simulator manufactures and other aviation departments will make this joint use operation a leading provider in next generation, ground based flight training.

Currently, there is no high level, simulator based training provider in the New England region. Our convenient location in southeastern Massachusetts, between Boston and Providence, RI, also provides easy air travel access for both domestic and international partners. For 30 years now, BSU Aviation has provided the aviation industry with a constant pool of highly qualified, aviation oriented students available for employment. We look forward to utilizing our resources with the aviation industry.
