I teach the Geography of Canada for the Canadian Studies Program. Like many New Englanders, I have a Canadian heritage. To explore this heritage in greater depth and bring it back to the classroom, I have traveled through the Canadian Maritimes, wandered the old back streets of Montréal and Québec City, and several times crossed the great wheat fields of central Canada via the Trans-Canada Highway. In the summer of 2004 I spent a week on horseback in the Willmore Wilderness north of Jasper National Park, Alberta, and another week hiking the peaks and glaciers of the Canadian Rockies. The classically folded mountains, stunning wildflowers, breath-taking wildlife, and crazy weather reminded me of why I spend as much time as I can in the field. Now I can take my students on virtual fieldtrips to the same Canadian settings!
