Describe your career path since graduation.

I worked in retail management for 3-4 years following graduation. In 1981 I took an entry level job at a computer service company in 1981 and have stayed in the technology sector since then.

 

What is your current position and how long have you been with your employer? 

I recently completed a 9 year stint at a Boston based mutual fund company. I was the Assistant-Vice President for Operations, Database and Middleware Support. Today I am President of my own consulting firm.

 

Describe the main responsibilities of your position. 

I consult on technology issues for companies of all sizes.

 

What do you enjoy most about your job? 

The variety of assignments and working with people.

 

What do you find most challenging about your job? 

The hours and the challenge to provide common sense solutions.

 

Describe your typical work week.  (How many hours you work, your work environment, etc.) 

I work 50-60 hours a week. I spend a lot of time researching issues and problems.

 

What job search methods did you use to obtain your current position?  

A lot of networking among friends and peers.

 

What advice could you give to students interested in your field? 

Be flexible. I was an English Major and got involved in this business almost by accident.
