The Bridgewater State University Job Shadow
Program During Winter Break provides students with
the opportunity to visit companies
and organizations to explore careers, network with
professionals and learn about jobs and internships -
all in one day -
during Winter Break.
The Program
Students apply to participate in a Job
Shadow with one company or
organization from the following list by the
deadline of Wednesday, November 9, 2011. For one day or half day
during Winter Break, the Job Shadow
participants may tour the company or
organization, observe the daily routines and
activities in the different divisions and
be introduced to professionals. Please be aware that due to high interest,
some job shadow opportunities may close
prior to the November 9th final deadline
for applications.
The Job Shadow program takes place during
the first two weeks of January 2012.
Students must arrange their own
transportation to the Job Shadow site.

The Companies and Organizations Participating
in Job Shadow 2012
Learn
more about the insurance and healthcare
industries at one of the leading insurance
companies in Massachusetts.
Blue Cross Blue Shield of Massachusetts
is the leading private health plan in the
Commonwealth - a not-for-profit company with a
proud history of community and health care
leadership. Shadow participants will have
the opportunity to tour their
Quincy facility, shadow professionals
during the course of their day and learn
more about the company at large. Students
from all majors who have an interest in the
corporate, insurance and healthcare fields
are encouraged to apply. Shadow
opportunities will be available in customer
service, sales and human resources.

Go
"behind the scenes" and out into
the field with cable television station
manager, Jeff Fowler '03.
BTV9
is a television production facility that
produces for and broadcasts local programming to
the Bridgewater community. This Job
Shadow opportunity will take place in
Bridgewater, MA. Students interested in
careers related to Communication Studies,
Business, English, Art (Graphic Design) and
Theater are encouraged to apply.
Tour
and meet the staff of a corrections
facility. The
Department of Corrections provides
public safety through safe, secure, humane
confinement and successful re-entry of the
offender population. Participants will
tour and meet with professionals at the
Old
Colony Correctional Center and the adjoining
Bridgewater State Hospital in
Bridgewater, MA. Students interested in pursuing
work in the field of Criminal Justice and
the legal fields are
encouraged to apply for this shadow.
Be
on-site for the Fox 25 Morning News program.
Meet the professionals in front of the
camera and behind the scenes through this
shadow opportunity coordinated by Segment
Producer Liz Meagher Cooper '01.
Shadow participants will travel to the local
Fox
TV news station in
Dedham, MA for an early
morning (7:30 am) shadow opportunity.
Participants will get the opportunity to
meet professionals in may different areas
including graphics, promotions, web team,
producers, reporters, anchors, finance, etc. All students interested in working in
broadcast are encouraged to apply including
Communication Studies, Political Science and
English majors. There are limited
opportunities for this shadow; please apply
early.
Network
in the accounting world.
KAF
Financial Group is one of the leading
CPA and Business Advisory firms in the Boston area with services ranging from
accounting and audit, financial advising,
tax consulting, and management consulting.
Job shadow
participants will be shadowing an auditor at KAF located in
Braintree, MA. It is possible that a
shadow participant may travel to another location. Accounting majors or
students interested in becoming an
accounting major are
encouraged to apply for this Job Shadow.

Massachusetts State Legislature
Attend
meetings with an elected official.
Students with an interest in government
policy, including the legislative process,
will have the opportunity to spend the day
with
state legislators at the Massachusetts
State House in
Boston, MA. In a day long program
coordinated by Sasha Link '04, Coordinator
of Government Relations at BSU, students
will receive a group tour of the State House;
as well as
individually shadow a state legislator,
attend meetings and network with government
officials. This opportunity is open to
all majors. There are limited
opportunities for this shadow; please apply
early.
Explore
the corporate world. MEDITECH
is a leading provider of software to the
health care industry. This Job Shadow
will take place in
Canton, MA. All students
interested in working in the corporate world
can participate in this Job Shadow. Shadow
opportunities will include marketing, IT,
customer service and training, as well as
sales.
This
opportunity is full. Please try again next year. Explore
a non-profit organization. The
New Hope organization delivers support
services to adults and families impacted by
sexual assault and domestic violence.
Shadow participants can choose to accompany
a Victim Advocate to court or meet clients at
a shelter. Students
from Criminal Justice, Social Work and
Psychology majors, as well as those
interested in working for a non-profit
should apply. The Shadow opportunity
will take place at either the
Attleboro
District Court or at a confidential shelter
in Southeastern Massachusetts. There are
limited opportunities for this shadow;
please apply early.
 Shadow employees of the world's leading provider
of financial services to institutional
investors. Students participating in
this
State Street Corporation shadow
opportunity, coordinated by State Street
Vice President Kathy Flaherty '91,
will shadow professionals as they progress
through their work day. This shadow
opportunity will take place at one of State
Street's
Boston or Quincy locations.
Students from all majors and those
interested in the wide range of corporate
careers including finance and accounting,
marketing, IT, and HR are encouraged to
apply. There are limited opportunities
for this shadow; please apply early.
The Requirements

In order to
participate in the Job Shadow Program
During Winter Break, you must be a
full-time, matriculated undergraduate.

A GPA of
2.5+ (cumulative) as of Spring 2011 is required.
First year students and transfer
students are eligible to
apply; Career Services will review first
year and transfer students' GPA's prior
to attending the Job Shadow to ensure
that these candidates meet the GPA
requirement.

Once you
commit to the Job Shadow Program, you
must fulfill your one day or half-day
Shadow assignment.

You must
be responsible for your own
transportation to the location for
the Shadow assignment.

Students
participating in the program must
complete the online application and
attach a resume. Career Services can
help you prepare and edit your resume.

select the one that best fits
your interests and potential career
goals. You cannot apply for more
than one shadow opportunity. You
cannot apply to participate in a
job shadow that you have previously
attended.

If you have
not already done so, create an
account on
CareerLink@BSU.
After you are approved by Career
Services as a registered student (you
will receive an e-mail), go to My
Accounts listed on the grey bar at the
top of the
CareerLink@BSU home page.
Click on My Documents and upload your
resume. Please be aware that it
takes up to 48 hours to approve your
account if you are not already
registered and another 48 hours to
approve your resume if uploaded
separately from registration. For
this reason, give yourself plenty of
time to register, upload your resume,
have both actions approved, and apply
before the deadline of Wednesday,
November 9. If there
are errors on your resume you will be
requested via e-mail to make an appointment with
Career Services to have your resume
critiqued before you can apply to the

one opportunity you want to apply for.
Do not apply for more than one
opportunity; multiple applications from one student
will not be accepted.

the details and hit "Save."

you would like to use from the drop down

Be aware
that some job shadows have limited
opportunities and may be closed prior to

Participating in Your Job Shadow

You
will be contacted to set
up a meeting to provide you with details
about your Job Shadow opportunity. You
must attend this
appointment in order to participate
in the Job Shadow Program. The
designated day and time for your shadow
will be given to you at this
appointment. If you are given a
range of dates, the exact date will be
provided at a later time.

Plan your transportation
for the designated day and time. BSU
will not provide you with transportation
to the Job Shadow site.

Plan your attire for the
day. We recommend a shirt, tie and
slacks for men, a blouse or shirt and
skirt or slacks for women; and shoes
rather than sneakers, unless otherwise
noted during your Job Shadow meeting in
Career Services. See our

information regarding professional
attire.
Prepare a
short list of questions.

Arrive at
the company or organization ten minutes
before the designated time. Bring your
list of questions, a notebook and a pen.
Enjoy your
Shadow! Be sure to collect business
cards from the professionals you meet
with. These connections may help you
find internships or jobs in the future.
