Check List for Students Applying to the Washington Center
for Internships and Academic Seminars

Do your research on The Washington Center website:  http://www.twc.edu

Make an appointment to talk with your academic adviser about how The Washington Center program fits with your academic degree plan(s) and discuss the number of credits you are seeking from your academic department.

Note:  Up to 15 credit hours can be earned for fall and spring; 1-6 credits for summer.  Distribution of credit can vary by department and/or student.  Discussion of credit with your academic department may include:

  • the number of credits to be applied towards the major
  • the number of elective credits
  • the number of credits for the seminar course
  • the number of credits for a directed study
  • Make an appointment to talk with BSU's Faculty Campus Liaison to The Washington Center, Dr. George Serra, Department of Political Science, 508-531-1387.
If necessary, make an appointment with your financial aid officer and a Student Accounts representative to talk about funding for The Washington Center.  In most circumstances, financial aid awarded for the semester you attend the Washington Center is applied to TWC program fees.

Complete TWC's on-line Internship Application form.  (DO NOT SUBMIT UNTIL A HARD COPY OF YOUR ENTIRE APPLICATION PACKET HAS BEEN REVIEWED AND APPROVED BY DR. GEORGE SERRA.)

In addition to the application form, TWC requires the following:
    • A resume (plan ahead and have your resume critiqued by a Career Services staff member)
    • An Internship Request Statement (see TWC web site for instructions)
    • An Issues Essay (see TWC web site for instructions; have content reviewed by your advisor)
    • Two letters of reference (ask for in advance; at least one must be from a faculty member)
    • One official transcript from the Registrar's Office
    • Application fee (check for $60)
Complete BSU's Application for Internship Form and Form for Designation TWC Internship Credit.

Make an appointment with Dr. Serra to review the printed copy of your TWC application packet, including the required BSU forms.  Once you receive Dr. Serra's email approval, you can then submit your on-line application to The Washington Center.
