Program Overview
Bridgewater State College (BSC) and Brockton Public Schools (BPS) have partnered
to develop an innovative mentoring program for students who have faced
challenges in their school performance, but show great potential. BPS
students will be paired with BSC student mentors for their four years of high
school. By becoming civically engaged, high school students will discover
new talents, participate in team building activities and learn to be mentors in
their own school and community.
BPS students will begin the program in the spring of their eighth grade year with an introductory event followed by a four day summer institute. Beginning in September, the program will include weekly get togethers during the school year held at Brockton High School (BHS) and BSC to engage in positive social and recreational activities in the community. The first year of the program will begin with approximately 25 Brockton eighth grade students. Each year a new group of eighth grade students will be chosen in the spring for the program. During their experience in the program, BPS students will also learn to be mentors to younger students entering the program.
