Each year hundreds of Massachusetts community college students transfer to Bridgewater State University. Why?
BSU offers the small classroom settings and faculty interaction community college students are familiar with. We're affordably priced, conveniently located and our 270-acre campus features state-of-the-art computer labs and classroom facilities. We also offer the convenience of evening and web-hybrid classes in Attleboro.
Students may pursue a degree part-time or full-time and may mix evening and online classes when pursuing one of our nine evening degree programs.
Transferring into an undergraduate evening degree program is a straight-forward process. We have a transfer office dedicated to help students transition to BSU. We also suggest that you use the transfer resources available on your campus. Many community colleges have a transfer office that is dedicated to helping students in the transfer process. You may want to check with your college's transfer office for assistance with the transfer process.
We are happy to answer your questions about transferring. Just give us a call at 508-531-2788 or send us at email at continuinged@bridgew.edu.
Who qualifies as a transfer student:
If you have earned at least 12 credits at an accredited college or university, you are eligible to apply as a transfer student. If you have earned at least 24 credits, you must possess at least a 2.0 Grade Point Average (GPA). If you have earned between 12 and 23 credits, your GPA must be 2.5 or higher.
Benefits for Massachusetts Community College students:
The Commonwealth of Massachusetts offers students who complete an associate's degree program at any of the 15 state community colleges great benefits.
MassTransfer: The Mass Transfer Block refers to a set of core (general education), requirements, consisting of 34 college-level credits. These credits, when completed together with a 2.0 or higher GPA, fully transfer to any Massachusetts public higher education institution, even if you donât have your associates degree. These credits also satisfy the core (general education) requirements at any other Massachusetts public higher education institution, with the receiving institution being able to add no more than six additional credits/two courses.
Joint Admissions Program -- Guarantees admission into a comparable state college or UMass program if you graduate with a 2.5 GPA or better. You do not have to pay the BSC undergraduate application fee, if you apply using the paper application form, as a Joint Admissions transfer student
Tuition Advantage Program -- Provides a 33% discount on BSC tuition for students graduating with a 3.0 GPA or higher. While this provision usually only applies to day students, BSC has expanded the program to cover tuition of evening students.
Old credits never die:
College credits do not expire as long as you have earned the credits at an accredited institution. In most cases, BSU will accept up to 69 credits from a two-year college and up to 90 credits from a four-year institution.
Day degree programs:
If the program you are interested in is not offered as an evening degree program, you can still take courses in the evening toward your degree. Eventually, you will have to complete the program through day courses. Visit the Admissions Office Web site, to apply online or download the day student application.
Great resources from our Transfer Office:
BSU has a very helpful Transfer Office and a Transfer Web site loaded with information about the transfer process and resources. Check out the helpful links below:
