Staying Well Informed
Ingredients of a Healthy Relationship

Other Links:

RESPECT

When two people are in a healthy relationship, there is mutual respect for each person as an individual, and for the bond that is created between them.

HONESTY

True honesty about our thoughts and our feelings is a challenge to accomplish, but is crucial to a healthy relationship. Honesty is very powerful, and for some people, very scary. Remember that it is the "real you" that your partner wants to get to know.

TRUST

It means that you feel you can count on each other, and that the other person will "be there" for you. Trust doesn't come easily, and for most people, needs to be earned over time.

COMMUNICATION

It is how we show our honesty, our respect, and our trust. Listening to your partner and really "hearing them" is a sign of a healthy relationship. The willingness to listen, is not always easy, but it is what people who care for each other do.

WHAT THEN IS A SUCCESSFUL RELATIONSHIP?

It is the bond that exists when two people enjoy being together in a partnership
It is when there is mutual respect and equal decision-making power in the relationship.
It is when both people can and do communicate freely.
It is when both desire the best for each other.
