
As Counseling Center staff, we are committed to promoting the personal growth and academic success of all BSU students. Clearly, we recognize that the college experience can be exciting and rewarding for most students. At the same time, it can also have its challenges and difficulties. Our entire staff is available to provide support and help to all students.
Philip Roberts, MS, LMHC, LADC, Clinical Director
Philip received his Masters Degree in Community Mental Health Counseling from the University of Vermont in 1990. He has been working at the Counseling Center since 1994 as a Licensed Mental Health Counselor and a Licensed Alcohol and Drug Counselor. In addition to providing counseling to students, he also offers educational programming to the campus community, with a special interest in leading yoga workshops. Philip enjoys being a part of the dynamics of Bridgewater's vibrant academic community. One of his personal interests is the freedom of biking for exercise and relaxation.
Donna Schiavo, M.A., LMHC, Staff Counselor
Donna received her Master's Degree in Psychology from BSU and is a licensed mental health counselor. She has worked with adults, adolescents and families in a variety of treatment settings. Donna uses a client centered, humanistic approach to psychotherapy. Her professional interests include the psychology of art and creativity, dream work, death and dying, and narrative therapy.
Amy Call, LICSW Staff Counselor
Amy received her Masters in Psychology and Social Work from Boston University. Amy has had the privilege of working in college counseling dating back to her MSW internship. She has a flexible, supportive and respectful approach with students that encourages student growth, healing and resilience. Amy has a special interest in mindfulness practice, managing distress, and building strengths. She welcomes all students.
Stephen P. LaBran, Psy.D., Staff Psychologist
Dr. LaBran received his Master's Degree in Community Counseling from Salem State College and his Doctorate in Clinical Psychology form MSPP. He completed his third and fourth year internships at the Brandeis University Psychological Counseling Center. He has 36 years of experience in community mental health and substance abuse treatment. Dr. LaBran utilizes cognitive behavioral therapy and humanistic approaches to psychotherapy. His clinical interests are in the treatment of affective anxiety and substance abuse disorders. Personally, his interests are fishing, boating, sea kayaking, and generally being outdoors.
Paige Leavitt-Halsall, MS, APRN, BC Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner
Paige is a graduate of Simmons College with a BSN degree in Nursing. She received her Masters in Nursing from Northeastern University with a concentration in Adult Psychiatry. Paige has 25 years experience in psychiatric nursing, she is board certified and can prescribe psychiatric medications. She also has experience in providing psychotherapy. Professionally, Paiges clinical interest is in the diagnosis and treatment of mood disorders. Personally, Paige enjoys world music and dance, contemporary art and caring for exotic and domestic pets.
Shannon L. Murray, Psy.D., Postdoctoral Fellow
Dr. Murray received her Doctorate in Clinical Psychology from Massachusetts School of Professional Psychology in June 2011. She completed two years of training at the New England Conservatory Counseling Center and has prior experience working with adolescents and adults as well as doing cognitive/neuropsychological/personality testing. Dr. Murray has also worked in community mental health settings with adults with major mental illnesses. She prefers an insight-oriented psychodynamic approach to psychotherapy in a safe and supportive environment.
Alex D. Dimitroff, Clinical Psychology Intern
Alex is currently pursuing her Masters in Mental health Counseling at Boston College. She has training in assessing healthy communication and strengths in couples' relationships. She also has experience working with adolescents in a school setting. Alex hopes to build a safe and supportive relationship that can illuminate individual strengths and serve as a catalyst for removing barriers to personal growth.
Julie E. Simon, Clinical Psychology Intern
Julie is currently pursuing her Doctoral Degree in Clinical Psychology at the Massachusetts School of Professional Psychology. Prior to coming to BSU, Julie obtained her Masters's Degree in Clinical Psychology at Towson University. She has several years of experience working with adolescents, adults, and families who are experiencing a variety of life stressors and mental health problems. She has also worked together with the police to provide crisis intervention to individuals in acute psychiatric distress. Julie aims to create a warm, supportive, and respectful environment where students can feel safe to talk about any issues that are causing unwanted stress.

Joan Corbett, Admin. Asst.
Joan Corbett joined the Counseling Center after working at the Student Accounts Office. She has been with BSU since 2009.
