  1. What's the difference between a Masters and a CAGS?

    A Certificate of Advanced Graduate Studies (CAGS) is a program that is post masters and can lead to the doctoral degree at UMASS Lowell. It is planned for the educator who has "been in the business" for awhile. For more information on the doctoral program please call (508) 531-2230.
  2. When can I register for MED/CAGS courses?

    You can transfer in up to 12 credits at time of acceptance with a maximum of 6 from another program.
  3. Do I have to do Internship/Practicum as part of my program?

    If you are seeking licensure, you must complete an internship or practicum
  4. What is the CAGS Extern?

    The CAGS Extern course (EDLE 681) is the culminating course where students work independently on their Leadership Projects. You must complete the leadership project and present your findings in your oral comprehensive exam to conclude your CAGS program.
  5. How long is an internship/Practicum?

    An internship/practicum is completed over a full year (fall and spring semesters – 3 credits per semester) with a total of 400 hours in your school site being supervised by a practitioner in the area that you are seeking licensure and a college supervisor. Candidates in the LEAD program or candidates who are currently employed as school administrators can complete their practicum in one semester (6 credits).
  6. What do you do during an internship/practicum?

    A set of national competencies are documented during the internship/practicum. They can be found on this site and the Massachusetts Department of Education and NCATE Web Site.
  7. What is the cost of the program?

    The cost of a 3 credit graduate class on campus is currently $837.90 (Fall 2007). This cost is subject to change. Please contact the School of Graduate Studies for updates on graduate tuition at (508) 531-1300.
