MERIT SCHOLARSHIPS

Bridgewater State College is pleased to offer a select number of merit scholarships. These scholarships range from $500 to full tuition and fees.

ALUMNI SCHOLARSHIPS - These scholarships are made available through the generosity of Bridgewater State College alumni, families, and friends.

EDITH BOTTOMLEY '31 MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP - This scholarship is awarded to a worthy student from the Greater Fall River area who has demonstrated financial need.

PRISCILLA MILES SCHOLARSHIP - This scholarship is awarded to an Undergraduate student attending classes during the evening.

GEORGE AHERNE '27 SCHOLARSHIP - This scholarship is awarded to an outstanding high school scholar, with demonstrated financial need, who plans to prepare for a career in teaching.

ELAINE M. DANEHY '70 MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP - This scholarship is awarded to an undergraduate student with a GPA of 3.0 or higher. Preference is given to a female graduate of Archbishop Williams High School in Braintree, MA.

PATRICIA ROSS REINSTEIN SCHOLARSHIP - This scholarship is awarded to an undergraduate student from Quincy, Massachusetts.

DAVIS FINANCIAL AID FUND -This scholarship is awarded to a female student who is returning to school after the age of 25.

ACADEMIC SCHOLARSHIPS - These scholarships are given in recognition of students' academic and community involvement. All incoming freshman will be considered for these scholarships. A Scholarship Committee will select recipients during the admissions process. No application is required. These scholarships are renewable provided the student maintains a specific grade point average and maintains the minimum standards of the BSC Satisfactory Academic Progress Policy (as defined in the student handbook). Recipients of these scholarships may receive the scholarships for a total of 8 semesters.

PAUL E. TSONGAS SCHOLARSHIP - This scholarship is awarded to students with exceptionally high grade point averages, who have demonstrated leadership qualities. Priority is given to students with a 3.75 GPA or higher, who are ranked in the top 10% of their graduating class. Recipients must receive at least 2 grades of B+ or better in an honors program. Preference is given to students who score at least 1200 on their SAT. Students must maintain at least a 3.3 GPA to renew this award.

PRESIDENTIAL SCHOLARSHIP - This scholarship is awarded to students admitted into the Honors Program.  For information about the Honors Program, contact Dr. Charles Nickerson at 508-531-1378 or visit the website www.bridgew.edu/academic/honors.

ROSE SCHOLARSHIP - This scholarship is awarded to students from underrepresented populations with high grade point averages, who have demonstrated leadership qualities. Priority is given to students with a 2.5 GPA or higher. Students must maintain at least a 3.0 GPA to renew this award.

INSTITUTIONAL SCHOLARSHIPS - Bridgewater State College also offers in excess of 70 different academic scholarships/awards to students who are currently enrolled at the college. These scholarships are available each January through the Office of Student Affairs. All currently enrolled students are encouraged to apply.


APPLICATION INSTRUCTIONS

Alumni and Academic Scholarships - A Scholarship Committee at Bridgewater State College selects recipients of Academic Scholarships. All students will be considered for these scholarships and, therefore, no application is necessary. Academic Scholarship recipients will be determined during the admission process.

Institutional Scholarships - Applications for institutional scholarships are available in the Office of Student Affairs, as well as the Office of Financial Aid in January for the following academic year.
