Financial Aid Exit Interviews
Graduation Application Required
Loan exit counseling is a federal requirement for all students who have borrowed loans while enrolled at Bridgewater State University. Federal regulations require that loan counseling take place before exiting the university or before enrolling for fewer than 6 credits. There are three types of loans that require Exit counseling: Federal Direct Loans, Federal Perkins Loans, and Massachusetts No Interest Loans. Each type of loan has its own type of loan counseling described below:
To complete Direct Loan exit counseling online, visit http://www.dl.ed.gov and follow the instructions for exit counseling. You will be asked which school you would like the information to be sent to. The federal code for Bridgewater State University requested during this process is 002183. Please print the "Borrower's Rights and Responsibilities" page and keep it for your records. The financial aid office receives the results of completed exit counseling on a regular basis.
You will need your US Department of Education PIN in order to complete this online exit counseling. (This is the same PIN you use to file the FAFSA online). If you do not have a PIN, or if you have forgotten it, you may request one at http://www.pin.ed.gov.
If you have any questions regarding either the completion of Direct Loan exit counseling or the Direct Loans you have borrowed while attending Bridgewater State University, check your BSU InfoBear account (for loan amount borrowed), or contact the Financial Aid Office at finaid@bridgew.edu or (508) 531-1341. If you would like individual loan counseling, call the Financial Aid Office to schedule an appointment with your financial aid counselor. The telephone number for the Direct Loan Servicing Center is: (800) 848-0979.
Perkins Loan Exit Counseling is done online at https://www.uasexit.com. While completing this session, you will need the names, addresses and phone numbers of at least 2 persons with different U.S. addresses from each other, who will know your whereabouts for at least three years. If you have any questions about the Perkins loans you borrowed while enrolled at Bridgewater State University, please contact Sue Hickey at 508-531-1751 or shickey@bridgew.edu.
If you borrow a Massachusetts No Interest Loan (NIL) while attending BSU, you must complete mandatory exit counseling before you graduate. You will receive information on how to complete this requirement from the Office of Student Financial Assistance before you graduate.
In order to see the details of Direct Loans and Perkins Loans you have borrowed over your college career, visit the National Student Loan Database System at http://www.nslds.ed.gov. You will need your Department of Education PIN (FAFSA PIN) for this website. If you do not have a PIN, visit http://www.pin.ed.gov.
