Admission Criteria  

High School GPA of 3.3 or higher; combined SAT Reading and Math scores of 1100 or higher; evaluation of submitted honors essay on the application page.

Joining You may apply if . . .

You are a prospective freshman or a first semester freshman who fulfills the criteria above.

You are a Transfer Student if you already have honors credits transferring from another Honors Program.

To complete your departmental honors requirements, you must meet the admission criteria in your department.

Apply at the end of your sophomore year or at the beginning of your junior year. You are not required to be in Commonwealth Honors to apply. However, if you are in Commonwealth Honors, you are required to apply for and complete the requirements for Departmental Honors.
Credits Needed

 

You must complete 12 honors credits during your freshman and sophomore years through a combination of honors courses (3 credits each), honors colloquia (1 credit each), and fall book club waivers (waives 1 credit per book club).

You must enroll in an honors course or colloquia every semester for your first two years to remain active in the Program.

You must then complete all requirements for departmental honors. (See box to the right).

You must complete 9 credits in your major department (or departments for interdisciplinary honors) during your junior or senior years.

You also must complete and pass an honors thesis. Thesis requirements also vary by department. You must also present your research in a public forum (e.g. Undergraduate Research Symposium). Contact your Honors Faculty Chair for more information.

 

GPA Requirements

 

You must maintain an overall GPA of 3.3

If your GPA falls below a 3.3, you will be placed on probation for one semester. If your GPA falls below a 3.3 for two consecutive semesters, you will be dropped from the Program.

If your GPA falls below a 2.7, you will be dropped from the Program.

You must obtain a B or better in your honors courses for them to count toward your honors credits.
