The Lunch & Learn series are educational sessions designed to educate employees on subjects of both personal and professional interest. Each session is approximately one hour long. Bring your lunch & learn! All sessions will run from 12:00pm-1:00pm and will be located in the Library Heritage Room. Please be sure to register by filling out the registration form below.

October 6, 2010 - "Alternative Medicines and Therapies"
Presented by: Nathan Schechter of WellCall
Alternatives to therapies offered by traditional medical practitioners are of great significance in health care right now. Anecdotal as well as scientific evidence indicates that such treatments as acupuncture, homeopathy, naturopathy, and Ayurveda can be as effective, if not more, for certain conditions as traditional western medicine. This session introduces participants to the varieties of alternative medicine and the benefits they provide.

November 3, 2010 - "Retirement Decisions"

Representative Steven White of the SMART Plan will discuss important information regarding retirement. Whether retirement is right around the corner for you or years away, Steven will help to guide you in the right direction. This session will cover the following information: calculating your retirement income needs, three proven strategies for increasing your retirement income, facts on retirement spending and budgeting as well as answer the question, how will I fund my retirement?

December 1, 2010 - "Building Self Esteem: The Key to Self-Confidence"
Presented by: The Wellness Corporation
This session helps participants explore the impact of self-esteem on their emotional, physical, and mental health. It defines and examines the origins of self-image and discusses the relationship between self-image and self-ideal. The session helps participants determine their own level of self-esteem and finally, it guides participants through a ten-step process for building self-esteem and acting with self-confidence.

January 5, 2011 - "Budgeting Basics: Start the New Year Off Right!"

Representative Steven White of the SMART Plan will help participants start the the new year off with budgeting basics knowledge. This session will help participants understand budgeting misconceptions, reasons for budgeting, goal setting, reasons for emergency funds and what you need to do to take action today!

February 2, 2011 - "The Art of Public Speaking"
Presented by: Ed Cabellon, Director of the Rondileau Campus Center
Are you afraid you'll freeze, choke or faint during a speech or while presenting during an important meeting? During this session, participants will learn techniques to excel at public speaking through the creation of meaningful gestures and the use of audio/visual aids with a splash of humor. Be prepared to break out of your public speaking shell!

March 2, 2011 - "Preventing Burnout in the Workplace"
Presented by: The Wellness Corporation
The Spring Semester can be a busy time for many employees of the university. In this session, participants will identify the factors which contribute to job stress burnout, and explore strategies for their control and/or reduction. Participants will examine their own attitudes and behaviors, and develop skills, which increase "stress hardiness" and prevent burnout.
