STAFF and FACULTY/LIBRARIAN AWARDS - 2010

The Diversity Inclusion Resource Institute (DIRI) awards recognize many types of contributions that help to make BSU inclusive for all. These awards focus on three different types of work -- research/scholarship, creative endeavors, and other practices in higher education. The purpose of these awards is to acknowledge the ongoing work being done at BSU to create a campus environment characterized by excellence and equity.

AWARD DESCRIPTION

In the 2009-2010 academic year, DIRI will offer three $1000.00 awards to full or part-time staff, faculty, and librarians. Each award is described below:

  1. The DIRI Practices in Higher Education Award: This award will be given to a campus member whose body of work reflects the mission of the BSU community in its efforts to encourage a diverse and equitable environment.
  2. The DIRI Research Award: This award will be given to a campus member whose body of research/scholarship has been informed by culturally inclusive foci, methodologies, and/or dissemination strategies.
  3. The DIRI Creative Endeavor Award: This award will be given to a campus member whose body of creative work has been informed by culturally inclusive foci, methodologies, and/or dissemination strategies.

Award nominations can be submitted on behalf of yourself or a colleague whose diversity-related work you would like to have recognized. Please indicate in the nomination letter which award is being applied for. Individuals may only be considered for one award per year, and can receive each award only once in their employment at BSU. Nomination materials should consist of the following:

  1. A 2-3 page description of how the nominee's work meets the award criterion;
  2. The nominee's current resume or CV.

Applications are due April 23, 2010 and should be sent electronically to DIRI Chair, Sabrina Gentlewarrior at sabrina.gentlewarrior@bridgew.edu. A committee comprised of DIRI members and the Director of the Office of Institutional Diversity will make the selections. Awardees will be required to post a one page description of their work on the DIRI website.

Past Resources:

The Adrian Tinsley Program would like to remind all faculty that the program offers students support for advanced undergraduate research through the ATP SEMESTER GRANT.

 All faculty are invited to attend one of the two ATP Semester Grant Workshops.  These workshops will be held in the OUR, 200 Maxwell Library on Wednesday, 27 January 2010 from 12:30-1:30 and on Tuesday, 2 February 2010 from 10:00 -11:00.

 Individual students working on an individual project may receive up to $300 for supplies, books, research-related travel (not travel to conferences), or photocopy costs.

 Individual students applying as a part of a group of students working on a common research project may receive $175 per group member. For example, a research group consisting of two students can propose a budget not to exceed $350, a research group consisting of three students can propose a budget not to exceed $525. However, the total reimbursement for any group cannot exceed $750.

 ATP also offers the Course Embedded Research Grant to support course-embedded research to full or part time faculty teaching an undergraduate course at Bridgewater State University. The grant is meant to support discipline-appropriate research experiences that are both manageable within a classroom and a semester and that an entire class will participate in. The course-embedded research grant is different from other ATP grants because the faculty member teaching the course applies for the grant money and works with Kathy Frederick in the Office of Undergraduate Research to spend the funds on research-related travel, equipment purchases, and other relevant expenditures related to research experiences that an entire class will participate in. Up to 500 dollars are available per class, per semester.

 Completed applications must be turned in to Ms. Kathy Frederick, Office of Undergraduate Research, room 200 Maxwell Library, by 4:00 PM on 12 February 2010.

 For a detailed explanation of the grant and the application, please see the website: http://www.bridgew.edu/ATP/semestergrants.cfm
