Donna
AmesDonna Ames has sung leading and
supporting operatic roles in Regional companies throughout the United States.
Among these roles she numbers Carmen, Suuki (Madama Butterfly) Hansel and many
others. She has particularly enjoyed creating characters in Contemporary
American operas by living composers premiering works at Chautauqua Opera, and
Reiman Studio Theater in New York City.
Ms. Ames has been the recipient of many career advancement grants and awards
including the Metropolitan Opera National Council Auditions, the Liederkranz
Foundation, and the William Mattheus Sullivan Role Preparation Grant. Upon
winning the San Francisco Opera Auditions, Ms. Ames was chosen to participate in
the coveted Merola Opera Program with San Francisco Opera.
Since turning her attentions to teaching, Ms. Ames has taught talented students
through the Rivers School Conservatory where she is the Voice Faculty Chair. She
also teaches at the University of Massachusetts at Lowell, and this semester
will begin teaching Graduate Students at the American Repertory Theater Moscow
Institute for Advanced Theater Training at Harvard University.
Ms. Ames was the founder of the Opera Ensemble at Bridgewater State University,
an ensemble which performed on campus concerts and delighted children in the
Southeastern Massachusetts schools. She enjoys teaching voice to advanced and
beginning students and particularly enjoys introducing non musicians to
classical music.
Ms. Ames holds the position of Eastern Massachusetts Governor of the National
Association of Teachers of Singing.
