Dr. Lysetta Hurge-Putnam, executive director of Independence House, Inc., will talk about social causes and consequences of domestic and sexual violence on Thursday, Oct. 24 in Crimson Hall's Dunn Conference Suite. Domestic violence impacts a third of women in the U.S. Victims come from all age groups, social classes, gender, racial and ethnic groups. Independence House works with victims of domestic and sexual violence on Cape Cod by providing services, education, prevention and training. Dr. Hurge-Putnam has served as executive director of Independence House since 1999. She is a recipient of the Massachusetts Commission on the Status of Women Unsung Heroine Award and has served on the Governor's Commission on Sexual and Domestic Violence. The event is open to the public as well as the campus community.
