The Association for Asian Studies brought to campus its New England Regional Conference 2013.
Spread over the better part of two days, the event brought together scholars from across the United States. Institutions represented included BSU, Harvard, Yale and many others.
Representing Bridgewater at the conference included, Wing kai-To, Kathleen Bailey, Jonghyun Lee, Kyung-shick Choi, Fernanda Ferreira, Deborah Nemko, Sheau-Hwang Chang, Kevin Curry, Martin Grossman, Madhu Rao, Xiangrong Liu, Kelley Donalds, Minae Yamamoto Savas, Salil Sachdev, Chien Wen Yu, Daniel J. Johnson, Robin Tierney, Sean H. McPherson, Matthew R. Dasti and Joshua A. Irizarry.
The keynote address, "Crossing Boundaries: The Hidden Histories of Transnational and Mixed Families in the U.S., China and Hong Kong, 1842-1943," was delivered by Professor Emma Teng of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
A "presidential address" was delivered by Professor Thonghai Winichakul, from the University of Wisconsin. It was titled, "Significance of Language and Translation in Asian Studies across Academics."
