Four students were honored for essays they had published in the English department’s Embracing Writing journal, which features information about BSU, articles on the writing process, and outstanding student writing from various courses. Each student at the 2012 Embracing Writing Reception received an Excellence in Writing certificate from Dr. Yulia Stakhnevich, assistant professor of English, as well as prize money.
The winners, categories and essay titles:
Jean Kesner-Mervius, creative non-fiction, “I am the Survivor”
Daniel Sheehan, creative non-fiction, “The Monster in the Clouds”
Yvana Osborne, persuasive essay, “Celebrity Child’s Play”
Andrea Silva, researched essay, “The Downfall of Civilization”
