President Dana Mohler-Faria has announced a large gift from Bruce and Patricia Bartlett:
I am very excited to share some wonderful and historic news with the campus. Two of our most distinguished alumni, Mr. Bruce Bartlett, ’68, and Mrs. Patricia (Quinn) Bartlett, ’67, have made a $3-million donation to the University in support of student scholarships. This is the largest single gift in the history of the institution and follows a $2-million donation the couple made in 2012.
In sharing their terrific news, Mr. and Mrs. Bartlett recounted, “Pat and I really enjoyed our college experience at Bridgewater and we believe the education we received was extremely beneficial in helping us to have successful careers. We are so delighted to contribute in our own way to help out deserving students at Bridgewater State University.”
The couple met during their student days at Bridgewater and later married. Bruce, a former mathematics teacher and CPA, went on to start numerous companies in the utilities, government, construction and steel manufacturing sectors. Patricia, a health and physical education major, went on to teach and become certified in elementary education.
Their donation will establish two endowed scholarships – one in Bruce’s name, the other in Patricia’s, with Bruce’s being need-based and Patricia’s merit-based. It is expected that a total of 30 scholarships in the amount of $5,000 each will be available to Bridgewater students on an annual basis. Additional details pertaining to application and selection procedures will be announced to students later this summer.
The transformative power of the Bartletts’ generosity to their alma mater knows no bounds. This gift, in particular, stands to positively impact future generations of Bridgewater students by making their goal of higher educational attainment a reality.
