It may be summertime, but the campus has been alive in recent weeks with the excited sounds of BSU’s newest students. More than 1,400 first-year students have been welcomed, with more expected in the fall, according to Christina McCauley, assistant director of new student programs.
“It’s been a great experience,” she said.
Orientation is a key part of any student’s educational experience, helping him or her to transition into a new phase of life, and at the same time allowing some fun and time to settle in amongst new peers.
Throughout June, six two-day sessions were held for commuter and residential students. The packed schedule included information about the ins and outs of university life, as well as the logistics that face every student. Along the way, the new arrivals learn about the plethora of academic options available, service opportunities, and expectations regarding conduct.
"The goal is to help the students “transition in and to feel confident about their decision to attend BSU,” Ms. McCauley said.
