About

The College of Humanities & Social Sciences is home to a variety of undergraduate degree programs, including English, criminal justice, and psychology. The College also offers several graduate degrees, including the MSW, which is housed in our School of Social Work. Many of the College's courses are part of the university's Core Curriculum and are designed to build critical thinking, speaking, and writing skills. Our faculty members are creative and research-oriented, focused on encouraging students to become lifelong learners and leaders in a diverse and ever-changing world.


Undergraduate Programs

The College of Humanities and Social Sciences offers undergraduate programs leading to the Bachelor of Arts (BA) or Bachelor of Science (BS) degree. The programs allow students to select from a number of areas and provide preparation for high school teaching (if secondary education is elected as a minor), graduate school, and fields of endeavor related to the major area of study.


Graduate Programs

Graduate programs leading to the Master of Arts, Master of Arts in Teaching, Master of Public Administration, Master of Social Work and Master of Science degrees are offered. Welcome to the College of Humanities and Social Sciences at Bridgewater State University, where we study what it is to be human, to be creative, and to function in groups and as individuals.

The humanities disciplines encompass everything from music to philosophy to languages, while the social sciences include political science, economics, anthropology, and much more. The research and creative activity undertaken by the College's faculty ranges from cognitive neuropsychology to metal sculpture to literary criticism, among many other specialties.

Our faculty members work closely with our students and care deeply about their success. The College prides itself on the extensive amount of undergraduate research its students undertake in conjunction with faculty mentors.

The College is the home of fifteen academic departments, even more academic majors, and most of the Core Curriculum, which makes up the liberal arts heart of a Bridgewater State University education. Mission

The liberal arts are the foundation for all higher education. The study of the liberal arts in Bridgewater State University's College of Humanities and Social Sciences provides students with the means to think creatively and critically, to write and speak effectively, to cultivate skills in qualitative and quantitative research, and to understand the human condition in diverse ways.

The College of Humanities and Social Sciences prepares students to become lifelong learners who are intellectually curious, culturally literate, adaptable to change, and respectful of individual and cultural differences.
