The eighth annual Africa Awareness Week was held, once again exposing members of the BSU community to the stories, music and cultures of the continent.

Dr. Sandra Faiman-Silva, one of the coordinators of the week-long celebration and professor and chairperson of the anthropology department, said she hopes exposure to Africa and its people will move students to want to know and experience more.

Those attending will receive information about Bridgewater State University, the graduate application process and learn about the university's array of graduate programs. Public Viewing

The observatory at the Center for Science & Mathematics will hold a public viewing night on Wednesday, April 9 from 8 to 10 p.m., regardless of weather. The evening will include indoor family oriented activities in the atrium and Room 120 in addition to viewing on the patios. Activities include "A Mission to Mars," "Crater Creator," "Scale of the Solar  System," and more.  Visit www.bridgew.edu/observatory for more information.

Education Career Fair

The Office of Career Services at Bridgewater State University will hold its annual Education Career Fair on Wednesday, April 9, beginning at 4 p.m. when a panel of hiring personnel will offer expertise on the job search process. A Networking Fair will begin at 5:30 and will include more than 50 Massachusetts school districts. The event is open to BSU students, alumni and the public. The observatory at the Center for Science & Mathematics will hold a viewing-only for the upcoming opposition of Mars - when the planet is close to Earth - on the fifth-floor patios on Monday, April 7 from 8 to 10 p.m. The observatory hotline, 508.531.DARK (3275), can be called to confirm these event. Opposition of Mars

The observatory at the Center for Science & Mathematics will hold special events for the upcoming opposition of Mars -  when the planet is close to Earth. Two viewings-only events will be held on the fifth-floor patios, only on clear nights, on Saturday, April 5 and Monday, April 7 from 8 to 10 p.m. The observatory hotline, 508.531.DARK (3275), can be called to confirm these events.

Canadian Ties

Dr. Erin Hurley, an English professor at McGill University, visited campus to present the first lecture as part of a new partnership between her home institution and BSU. 

Fred Clark, executive vice president and vice president of external affairs, and McGill’s Vice President Rose Goldstein recently signed a partnership agreement between the two universities that encourages cooperation in the forms of faculty exchange, research coordination and student interaction.
