What’s cooking at BSU? Professor Michael Kocet’s Culinary Therapy course for one thing.

The graduate-level class teaches students about the ways cooking and sharing a meal can bring people together. 

Held in the kitchen of the Davis Alumni Center, this special hands-on session begins with a lecture by Dr. Kocet, associate professor of counselor education, but heats up pretty quickly thereafter.

The campus community came together to celebrate the recent successes of students of color at BSU. More than 100 students, faculty and staff filled the Dunn Conference Center to share in the proceedings.

Jovan Taylor, vice president of the student organization Men Integrated in Brotherhood (MIB), welcomed the audience.

From the Lab to the Field

“Teaching STEM with Biomimicry” was the theme of the 2015 CASE Conference held on campus. The half-day event included speakers, plenary sessions, and workshops, all dealing with nature’s role in STEM education and research.

STEM stands for science, technology, engineering and math, and the conference brought together from across the region educators and scientists representing each discipline.

Celebrating Service - (Multimedia)

State Senators Vinny deMacedo, Marc Pacheco and Michael Rodrigues were honored by the university for their service to the Portuguese and Cape Verdean communities in Southeastern Massachusetts. The three lawmakers were the guests of honor at a public service forum sponsored by the Pedro Pires Institute for Cape Verdean Studies.

Asian New Year Marked

Members of the BSU community recently came together to commemorate the Asian Lunar New Year. The annual campus event drew a wide range of students, faculty and administrators to mark what is for the Asian world an important celebration.

Meet Talia Martin (Video)

Senior Talia Martin of Cumberland, R.I., was one of 60 students nationwide accepted by the Council on Undergraduate Research to present her research at the annual Posters on the Hill event. She’ll be among the nation’s top student-researches, spending a day on Capitol Hill displaying their projects and discussing their findings with members of Congress. The event is designed to highlight the importance of undergraduate research. 

‘Crazy’ Business

What’s a dream for many people has become a reality for Devin Kenney, a biology and chemistry major, and his brother Joe, both members of the class of 2015. 

They’ve turned their hobby into a business.

When they were young teens, the brothers founded a company called Joe’s Craz-zy Critters.
