Coffee Tasting

Students in the Geography Second-Year Seminar, the Secret Life of Coffee, will share their research about the coffees of more than a dozen countries - with free samples. The annual event, held in conjunction with the Social Justice League, will be Thursday, April 4 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the Rondileau Campus Center Ballroom. Admission is free.

Fair Shot

Current teachers and future educators descended on campus for the Education Career Fair. The event drew more than 165 students, who networked and handed out resumes to the 43 school systems on hand.
 

Travels Through Cuba

News & Events

Tom Miller, author of "Trading with the Enemy: A Yankee Travels Through Castro's Cuba," will present a talk on Monday, April 8 starting at 3:30 p.m. on traveling through Cuba. The event will be in the Heritage Room of Maxwell Library and is free of charge to the general public and the campus community. He has also authored "The Panama Hat Trail" and "Revenge of the Saguaro," among other works.

Documentary Film Showing

Unlike any other film, book or article produced about Mumia Abu-Jamal, the documentary "Long Distance Revolutionary" chronicles the 30-year death-row prisoner's evolution as a writer, historian and public intellectual, both before and after his incarceration.  The film's narrative covers his early years as a writer for the Black Panther newspaper to his days as an independent journalist in Philadelphia. The screening of the documentary is cosponsored by the Social Justice League.

Film Scholar Lecture

Timothy Corrigan, University of Pennsylvania professor of English and cinema studies, will give a lecture "Alligators, Adaptation, and Adaptation Studies Today," on Monday, April 8 starting at 2 p.m. in Maxwell Library's Heritage Room. Dr. Corrigan is the author of numerous scholarly books on American and European cinema as well as several popular textbooks in film studies. The event is open to the campus community and general public.

Visiting Writer

Dr. Matthew Batt, author of the highly acclaimed memoir "Sugarhouse: Turning the Neighborhood Crack House into Our Home Sweet Home," will read from his recent nonfiction work and answer questions about memoir, narrative craft and his creative process. Sponsored by the College of Humanities and Social Sciences and the Department of English, his lecture will be Thursday, April 4, starting at 4:45 p.m. in Room 112 of East Campus Commons. A book signing will follow (book sales by the BSU book store). The event is open to the public and the campus community.

In “Looking Up,” his current exhibition at the Anderson Gallery, Professor Collin Asmus combines both the old and new to produce compelling images from that vast expanse above. As he puts it: “I am interested in how contemporary viewing technologies help shape our understanding of our surroundings.

'And Still We Rise'

News & Events

Enter the world of drug addiction, domestic assault and homelessness through "And Still We Rise," A theatrical performance by and about those who survive and share their stories of coming through. Artistic director Dev Luthra crafted and presents a  play to help performers affirm their transformation. The  performance will take place Wednesday, April 3, starting at 8:15 p.m. in Boyden Hall's Horace Mann Auditorium. A question-and-answer session will follow. The performance is cosponsored by the Office of University and Community Partnerships.

'Review' Time

Bridgewater Review is now in its third decade as the premier showcase of scholarly work by BSU faculty and librarians. Over that time it has gone through changes yet has always managed to hold to a high standard while bringing readers research papers, book reviews, artwork and more.

History Professor Andrew Holman was named editor in January 2012. He’d previously worked with the previous editors, Drs. William Levin and Michael Kryzanek, both longtime BSU faculty members.
