A distinguished lecture and discussion entitled "From the Jihad to Boko Haram: The State, Religion and Social Conflict in Nigeria" by Dr. Edlyne Anugwon, visiting scholar from the University of Nigeria, will be held Thursday, March 28, in Room 112 of East Campus Commons starting at 2 p.m. Co-sponsored by the Department of Anthropology and the African Studies Program, the lecture is part of Africa Awareness Week. For more information, contact Dr. Louise Badiane, coordinator of the African Studies Program.

"Educating Girls: Breaking Down the Barriers in Afghanistan" was the title of a lecture given by Razia Jan, who was chosen by CNN as a top 10 hero for 2012.

Held in the lecture hall of the new science and mathematics center, the event drew an audience of more than a hundred and was the second installment of the recently inaugurated John Quincy Adams Foreign Affairs Distinguished Speaker Series, which is sponsored by the Dr. Edward Minnock Center for International Engagement.

Bridgewater State University observed its third annual Day of Dialogue event, this year themed, "Building Skills for Diversity and Social Justice.” An audience of more than 300 students, faculty and staff was in attendance for the day-long program held in the ballroom of the Campus Center.

Fourteen members of the Bridgewater State University field hockey team have been named to the 2012 Gladiator by SGI/National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) Division III National Academic Squad.

Taking a Bow

The BSU may have lost in the opening round of the 2013 NCAA Division III Women's Basketball Tournament, but team members have no reason to hang their heads. The squad posted another great season, entering the tournament with 11 wins in a row. The squad had also won 17 of its last 18 games.

Professor Takes on Jung

Dr. Curtiss Hoffman (anthropology) led a worldwide online webinar on "Cross-Cultural Symbolism in Jung's Red Book: An Anthropological Exploration." The webinar was hosted by the Asheville (NC) Jung Center, and a recording of it will eventually be available through the center’s website. Cultivating World Citizenship

The Center for Middle East Studies will present a lecture "St. Augustine to the Enlightenment: Islam's Role in Cultivating World Citizenship and Human Unity" on Tuesday, March 5 starting at 12:30 in Maxwell Library's Heritage Room. Dr. Robert Sylvester, assistant professor of elementary and early childhood education at Bridgewater, is the speaker. The event is open to the public and the campus community.
