UPDATE: ALL Classes Canceled, 1/28/2015

A winter storm and dangerous driving conditions have resulted in the closure of all campuses of Bridgewater State University on Wednesday, January 28.  All activities and events - including evening classes - have been cancelled. For more information regarding university events, please contact the event line at 508.531.1271.

Additionally, the drop/add period for full semester courses has been extended until Thursday, January 29th.

Students from Brockton’s East Middle School filled the Horace Mann Auditorium, waiting with anticipation for a tour of the campus and an up-close lesson in Cape Verdean art. 

“We want to introduce them to college life, and interact with the artist and students of Bridgewater,” said Dr. Joao Rosa, executive director of BSU’s Pedro Pires institute for Cape Verdean studies.

The Heritage Room of the Maxwell Library was filled to capacity with colleagues and friends who gathered to honor Dr. Howard London, who retired over the summer as the long-time provost and vice president of academic affairs.

President Dana Mohler-Faria began the encomiums with his introduction.

Linking with the Azores

Frederick W. Clark Jr., executive vice president and vice president for external affairs, along with other university administrators and faculty, hosted a roundtable discussion on the possibility of establishing an exchange program between BSU and the University of the Azores.

Meet the New Provost

When the university held this year’s opening day breakfast for faculty and staff, President Dana Mohler-Faria began his remarks by introducing the new provost and vice president for academic affairs, Dr. Barbara Feldman. She “is very much what I would call ‘Bridgewater material,’” the president said.

Starting Fresh

The annual convocation ceremony welcoming the class of 2018 was held in the Rondileau Campus Center auditorium, kicking off what promises to be an eventful academic year.

It was Dr. Mohler-Faria’s 13th and final time addressing convocation as president; he will step down at the end of this academic year. He shared his thoughts with the incoming students, as well as some advice.

It was his 13th and final time opening the new academic year as president, and Dr. Dana Mohler-Faria had much to share.

During the annual opening day breakfast, held in a packed ECC cafeteria, the president looked back for a few moments, but spent a good deal of his address looking forward.
