The youngest victim of the Boston Marathon bombings, Martin Richard, is being honored by BSU, which will rename its Institute for Social Justice after the youngster. Additionally, an on-campus memorial is planned to commemorate Martin's life and the message he personified.

Fab Five

When Maria DaSilva graduated from BSU in 2014, very few of her classmates knew that her own life experiences drove her to pursue a degree that would land her a first job as a social worker. She was one of the “First Five” graduates of The Home for Little Wanderers’ Academic Support for College and Life Program (ASCL) at BSU for young adults who have aged out of state systems of care and are pursuing higher education.

Things have been looking up over the past decade for those working at or attending Plymouth South High School. The thanks goes in large part to Principal Patricia (Connors) Fry, G ’99, who has just been recognized with the state’s Principal of the Year Award.

The Plymouth resident said she was encouraged by the recognition, but was quick to credit her colleagues and the Plymouth South community at large.

At the Ricciardi College of Business students not only learn about investing, they now have an opportunity to put those skills into actual practice.

The college’s computer lab has been transformed into a BSU Trading Room, where business students research corporations, create hypothetical investment portfolios, and track their investments with simulation software that uses actual market data and prices.

CARS: Past, Present and Future

The 2015 Center for the Advancement of Research and Scholarship (CARS) May Celebration was titled, “Unexpected Connections” and the two-day event featured a broad spectrum of topics covered in a variety of lectures and panel discussions.

Approximately 150 faculty, librarians and members of the administrative staff participated.

Agreement Signed

Bridgewater State University has signed an exchange agreement with Sidi Mohamed Ben Abdellah University in Fez, Morocco, which opens the door for students and faculty from both institutions to share in international learning experiences.

New Deal

Newly admitted students transferring to Bridgewater State University this fall from a Massachusetts community college with an earned associate’s degree and a minimum GPA of 3.0 will be offered a full tuition-free scholarship.

‘The Magic was There’

Chris Perry has had his share of challenges in life, from being placed in foster care, to homelessness and a serious leg injury. But the BSU track and field star has never let those difficulties stand in the way of his athletic dreams.

That determination paid off when the 24-year-old senior won the triple jump competition at the NCAA Division III Outdoor Track & Field Championships in Canton, N.Y., on May 23, making him BSU’s first national champion.
